When you do a liver and gallstone cleanse herbal teas are a great support and follow up tonic.
Most people should do a liver and gallstone cleanse atleast once or twice a year to clear stones and chaff in the bile ducts. Because of our Western diet, our liver is often overworked and like the swimming pool pump, occasionally needs a “backwash”. Bile is produced by the liver and is used to break down fasts, fat soluble vitamins (ie vitamin E), foods, helps with digestion and keeps our bowels regular. After it is secreted by the liver, it is stored in the gall bladder in a concentrated form ready to be used.
Stones accumulate in the gall bladder because of improper diet and 90% of gallstones are made of cholesterol.
Excess sugar, refined carbohydrates, excess dairy products, fried foods – all over burden the gall bladder and liver. The contraceptive pill doubles the risk of gallstones forming.
A low fat diet or no fat diet will actually cause gallstones by decreasing bile flow and allowing the bile to over-accumulate in the gall bladder. A liver and gall bladder flush is one of the most commonly used therapies for removing stones – especially the use of olive oil.
You will need: Epsom salts, Olive oil, one grapefruit.
Preparing for the cleanse: Choose a Saturday for the cleanse so you can rest the next day. Eat a no-fat breakfast and lunch such as cooked cereal (porridge) with fruit, fruit juice, bread & honey (but no butter or milk) baked potato or other vegetables. This allows the bile to build up and develop pressure in the liver. Higher pressure pushes out more stones.
2pm: Do not eat after 2pm. Prepare Epsom salts – Mix 4 tablespoons in 3 cups of water and store in a jug or jar in the fridge. This makes 4 servings of 3/4 of a cup each. (Keeping in the fridge is for convenience & taste only )
6pm: Drink one serving (3/4 cup) of Epsom salt preparation. Flush down with more water.
8pm: Drink another ¾ cup of Epsom salts. You should not feel hungry even though you have not eaten since 2pm. Be on time, not even a few minutes early or late.
9.45pm: Pour ½ cup (measured) of Olive oil into a glass jar. Freshly squeeze grapefruit into the measuring cup. Strain off or remove the pulp – ¾ cup of juice is best. Close the jar and shake hard. The fresh grapefruit will turn the oil into water consistency.
10pm: Drink the Olive oil potion. Drinking through a straw makes it easier to get it down. Make sure you consume it all in 5 minutes.
LAY DOWN IMMEDIATELY: as this will ensure more stones will be produced so forget everything else. Lie flat on your back with your head high on the pillow. Keep still for atleast 20 minutes. You may feel a sensation as the stones travel the open bile ducts & valves, but you will not feel any pain, thanks to the Epsom salts. Now go to sleep.
Next morning: No earlier than 6am drink your third dose of Epsom salts. If you feel nauseous wait till you feel more composed.
2 hours later: Take your 4th and last dose of Epsom salts then go back to bed.
2 hours later: start drinking some fresh juice. A vegetables juice is best. Then halt an hour later, eat some fruit, soup or drink herbal teas. I recommend the DETOX tea with it’s liver herbs of Milk Thistle and Dandelion leaf to support the liver. Either the LEMONGRASS & GINGER tea or TUMMY tea are also good options to follow up before eating solid foods.
What you can expect: Diarrhoea will start some time after taking the Epsom salts. This is clearing the passage way for the stone flush. The Olive oil potion stimulates that gall bladder to work hard and clear itself out. This is how it expels stones. Gallstones will come with bowel motions in the morning. They are light pea green and will float in the toilet. They are all sizes, some as small as gravel but mostly pea size. You may be surprised at how many the gall bladder expels. Often it can be in the hundreds. Stay close to the toilet until after you are eating fruit.
The procedure will take about 24 hours. Ensure you drink a glass of water after drinking the Epsom salt mixture to keep your hydration up.
How did you do?
Green stones that float indicate gall stones, not food residue. Only bile from the liver is pea green. Bowel movements sink in the toilet but stones will float because of they contain cholesterol. You will need a round 2000 stones (not all in one go!) before the liver is clean enough to rid you of allergies or bursitis or upper back pain. The first cleanse may rid you of them for a few days as the stones from the rear travel forward, then they give you the same symptoms again. You can repeat this cleanse at 2 week intervals. Never cleanse when you are ill. Sometimes the bile ducts are full of cholesterol crystals that did not form into round stones. They will appear as “chaff” floating on the top of the toilet bowl water. Cleansing this chaff is just as important as purging stones.
Herbal teas are a great follow up of a Liver Gallstone cleanse. Doing the cleanse is also a good opportunity to plan your eating and work out what foods to include or eliminate for a healthier you.
